Welcome to the first issue of the MyEZsale Ecommerce Guide newsletter! If you sell products online, whether you're an established veteran or just beginning, this newsletter is here to make your life easier and help you make money.
If you've been involved in ecommerce for even a little while, you know that the Internet is constantly changing. Keeping on top of all those changes can be a full-time job. That's where MyEZSale comes in. We'll be covering topics like search engine optimization, newsletter and email marketing, affiliate programs, Web site design, online auctions - anything that's relevant to you as an online seller.
Every one of those areas has gone through big changes in the last few years. (Anyone remember when Overture was called GoTo.com? When Lycos and AltaVista were big deals and Google didn't even exist?). One area in particular that has emerged as a hot concept in ecommerce over time is affiliate marketing programs, which we'll focus on in this issue.
While affiliate/associates programs have been lucrative for many online merchants, the field is getting so crowded that it's becoming confusing to know what works and what doesn't. Promises of making millions of dollars with armies of sellers out there pitching your stuff are tantalizing. But how realistic is that? In future issues, we'll be taking a close look at the real deal behind affiliate programs in the "Affiliate Program Close-Up" feature, which I'll introduce in this issue by taking a look at Amazon.com's program. But first, we'll get our feet wet in this issue by learning about what types of affiliates to try and how you can find them.
Another feature in this issue deals with a topic some say is crucial in marketing your products: online newsletters. ClickZ columnist Jeanne Jennings is an expert in online newsletter marketing with a long track record of studying what works on the Internet in this important and competitive field, and she shares her insights with us. (On the Resources section of the MyEZsale Web site, you'll find list of email marketing vendors under "Email List Hosting Services." We'll do reviews of some of these services in future issues, so stay tuned.)
I hope you enjoy and profit from both pieces. Meantime, I'd love to hear from you about you.
