Last week I asked to hear from you about who you are and what you sell. I was gratified to receive several letters from MyEZsale readers, telling me about their unique and interesting businesses. I’ll share some of them with you in the new "Reader Mail" section of the newsletter.
It’s also been fun to watch our fledgling community grow on the MyEZsale Forum (yes, we have message boards!) They’re at http://www.myezsale.com/forums/phpBB2/index.php. We already have lively discussions going on Web hosting, listing on Google, and how deep your Web site should go.
As I mentioned on the board discussion about Web sites, we’re doing a “Soup-to-Nuts” series on setting up a Web site,...everything from how to get a domain name, to site hosting and design. We kick off the series in today’s issue with a discussion of domain names. I’ve found domain names fascinating since the very early days of the Internet. I remember when "Yahoo!" first came out, and being intrigued by the vibrancy of the name. (It seems to have matched the go-go optimism of the 90s, but I’m glad they haven’t changed the name to "Bummer!" now that things have toned down). We’ll look at trends in domain names, what’s important to include in a name, and what to avoid. Then, veteran computer consultant Sruli Shaffren shows us just how to go about registering a domain name.
Even if you already have a domain name (or names), I think you’ll find these articles informative, and they might help you decide about whether to obtain more names for the future, or whether you might need to think about a name change.
In coming issues, we’ll talk about trademark issues, finding a good Web host, Web site design, and all sorts of other topics important to you.
Again, I invite you to email me and tell me about your business. (Who knows, maybe you too will get your letter and URL published in MyEZsale.com!) Email me at Julia@MyEZsale.com. And be sure and check out the MyEZsale Ecommerce Guide Discussion Forum at http://www.myezsale.com/forums/phpBB2/index.php. There’s always some good camaraderie and useful advice.
