WalMart to Accept Checks
In response to requests from its customers, WalMart now offers online electronic checks as a payment option. WalMart is one of the first mass retailers to enable its customers to make purchases over the Internet using their checking accounts. "Many of our customers have told us they don't use credit cards or simply prefer to pay for merchandise with a check," said John Fleming, Walmart.com's president and chief executive.

New Product Data Source Increases Web Sales, Cuts Costs for Micro Warehouse
Micro Warehouse Inc. was able to expand its Web site's product offerings in the last four months from 30,000 SKUs to 130,000, and save money by reducing its data management staff from dozens to five, due to an agreement with CNET Networks Inc.'s CNET Channel, reports InterntRetailer.com. Rather than compiling the data itself, a difficult and tedious task, Micro Warehouse now receives the information from CNET's Russian-based high-tech staff of dedicated researchers who gather and update information about products from 5,000 vendors.
