Hello Julia,

I'm interested in seeing what your newsletter covers, as I am an owner/operator of an independent gift shop, knowing that I should do something as far as a website to perk up slow sales and generate some cash flow. But I am a complete novice at what this entails, and would be interested in the most basic information to start with.

I have a large inventory of wonderful gifts/antiques/collectibles, but most are "one or two of a kind" - and wonder how a website would work with that kind of inventory. (Sounds like constant maintenance and change). Ideally, I realize that a website would work if you had a large backstock of the same item to list.

As I said, I need to be directed to start with the most basic information and what I can do with the type of inventory situation I have. Will your newsletter help me??

Thanks,
Marilyn Morrison

Hi Marilyn!

Thanks for writing. Yes, in fact, MyEZsale is in many ways targeted toward sellers exactly like you: wanting to get in the online business, or already in and wanting to learn about in more, in a no-nonsense, non-technical way.

We've covered some basic topics like picking and registering a domain name, to start, so check out our back issues on the site http://myezsale.com/cab/abu/y203/year_index, and stay tuned for more info about setting up a site, design, shopping cart software to use, etc. From what I've heard and seen, there are plenty of sellers like you selling unique items that can't be relisted. It's not as easy as selling bulk items you can easily relist, but then, yours may sell for better prices.

Be sure to check out our forums for the helpful advice and support of people like you, out there in the trenches: http://www.myezsale.com/forums/phpBB2/index.php.

Thanks so much, and I hope MyEZsale helps you succeed!
Julia

Hi Julia,

I like your MyEZsale Guides. Thanks for sharing your expertise and experience.

Why do you send your email newsletters out as text rather than html? I just sent out my first newsletter through Constant Contact to subscribers at my web site, http://www.netPsychologist.com, and I used html because of the looks. I'd be happy to send you a copy for consideration, if you requested it.

Is it that more email addresses can handle text and not the graphics? Thanks again for your time and thoughts.

Thanks for stopping at www.netPsychologist.com! May your success continue.

Sincerely,
Paul W. Anderson, Ph.D.

Hi Paul,

I like how you repeat your web site url-a sign of a good marketer. ;)

A fair question. I checked with our guru of email (among other things), Dave Steiner, and he explains it thusly:

"AOL and WebTV users (which comprise about 20% of our readership) have problems viewing HTML newsletters. Plain text newsletters tend to be smaller in file size, so they're easier to send and to receive. Also, plain text newsletters take less formatting, so they're better for sending out timely information.

"It's a choice we made early on, and we're sticking with it for now." :-)

Makes sense to me. Thanks for writing!

Julia
